“We actually had quite a few people right when we opened (at sun up)... they caught a lot of fish really quickly,” said Northport Sportsman Club member Ryan Blessing. “Lots of fish being caught and lots of bigger fish this year, it’s just been a really good day.”

Attendees enjoyed hot dogs in the afternoon and the many doughnuts provided by Barb’s Bakery. Jon’s Barber Shop in Suttons Bay supplied bait for families that needed any at the event. To donate to the Northport Sportman’s Club, the group which sponsors and organizes the youth fishing derby every spring, contributions can be mailed to P.O. Box 373, Northport, Michigan 49670.
