1935 ~ 2024
SUTTONS BAY – Phyllis Ann Flees, 88, of Suttons Bay passed away Friday, May 17, 2024 at Munson Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Phyllis was born December 8, 1935 in Suttons Bay the daughter of Donovan and Lucy (Hinshaw) Lee. On June 11, 1955 in Suttons Bay she married James Leroy Flees who survives.
Phyllis was a caring and giving person who put others before herself. She loved crossword puzzles and word find games and could solve them incredibly fast. Phyllis had a love of soap operas and the kids remember her having two different TV’s on while she watched two soap operas at the same time.
She was tech savvy, including installation and operation of her smart phone and computer. Phyllis used these devices to stay in touch her family. Her children remember supper at the Flees home was like a school lunch menu, you knew what you were going to eat each day of the week and as soon as Jim got home from work, supper was on the table!
She especially took great joy in, and dearly loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandson. She always wanted to know what they were up to & always remembered all of their birthdays.
She also loved watching her Detroit Tigers. She was very knowledgeable about the game. Phyllis was also an avid bowler she would even watch it on TV and make her own score sheets & keep the score of all the bowlers. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of sixty eight years, James; three children, Janice Marie (Alvin) Herman, James Lee Flees, Judith Ann (Thomas) Skowronski; two siblings, Ronald Lee, Ruby Brach; five grandchildren, Denise Herman, Heather (Shawn) Petras, Tiffany Skowronski ( Jorge Diaz) Jason ((Chelsey) Skowronski, Christopher (Katie) Skowronski; eight great grandchildren, Kelsie Herman, Keegan Petras, Kayla Petras, Bryce Diaz, Leo Skowronski, MacKenzie Skowronski, Carter Skowronski, Isaiah Skowronski; and one great great grandchild, Logan Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter in law, Tina Flees, and a brotherin- law, George Brach.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22 at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 23 with the family greeting friends at 9:00 a.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
