Pattern of behavior

To the editor: Having attended the May 13 Leland Township board meeting, I was disappointed to read the Enterprise’s reporting on the DNR dock removal in Leland. Per the story, a DNR proposal to swap park land, detailed in a letter addressed to Supervisor Och, “was not discussed by the Township Board.” The reason, unreported, is the board didn’t know the offer existed.

To the editor:

Having attended the May 13 Leland Township board meeting, I was disappointed to read the Enterprise’s reporting on the DNR dock removal in Leland.

Per the story, a DNR proposal to swap park land, detailed in a letter addressed to Supervisor Och, “was not discussed by the Township Board.”

The reason, unreported, is the board didn’t know the offer existed. This was evident from the discussion at the meeting.

Leland Township did not reject that offer, as reported. Och did, saying May 13, it didn’t occur to her to tell the board.

Och admitted she also rejected a DNR request to repair the dock ‚ again without the board knowledge — telling DNR the township lacked funds (which was not true.) There was plenty of time to tell the Board since DNR was planning in early November to remove it.

Och does not have authority to make decisions unilaterally — per state statute those responsibilities belong to the entire Board. She is just one of five members on the Board.

This pattern of behavior has typified her eight years as Supervisor. Just ask the other members of the Township Board.
