Record eagle John Lober invitational; NWC Championship

County runners head into the state championship this week with the last of their tune-up races happening with the Northwest Conference Championships last Tuesday and the Record-Eagle John Lober Invitational on Thursday.

County runners head into the state championship this week with the last of their tune-up races happening with the Northwest Conference Championships last Tuesday and the Record-Eagle John Lober Invitational on Thursday.

Glen Lake senior Kariesue Taghon took care of business in the 100 and 200-meter dashes on Tuesday.

She claimed first in the 100meter dash with a time of 12:54, and third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.65. Both times were personal records for Taghon.

She also finished seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04. At the NWC Conference championships, Taghon finished second in the 400 (1:02).

Glen Lake senior Eleanor Valkner finished sixth in shot put with a throw of 31 feet 11.5 inches on Tuesday. She also finished second in discus with a throw of 118 feet 7 inches.

Valkner won a conference championship last week in discus with a throw of 118 feet.

Leland’s Alyssa Korson finished eighth at the conference championships with a throw of 83 feet 9 inches.

Glen Lake’s 4x100-relay team of Emily Alaimo, Robin Lane, Lydia Fosmore, and Valkner finished eighth with a time of 55.89 on Tuesday.

The 4x200-relay team of Alaimo, Fosmore, Lane, and Avery Flores also finished eighth.

Alaimo, Fosmore, Lane, and Taghon finished eighth in the mile-relay with a time of 4:32.

Leland’s two-mile relay team of Natalie Burpee, Abby Hicks, Ellen Schwaiger, and Ella Knudsen finished fifth with a time of 10:55.

At the conference championships, Leland junior Ella Knudsen finished second in the half-mile and third in the mile with times of 2:27 and 5:32. Leland freshman Natalie Burpee finished third in the two-mile with a time of 13:35.

For the boys, Glen Lake sophomore Jacob Plamondon jumped 6 feet 2 inches to claim first in high jump on Tuesday at the Record-Eagle John Lober Invitational. Plamondon won a conference championship in high jump with the same height last week.

Laker senior Boden Fisher finished eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.83. Last week, Fisher won a conference championship in the 100-meters with a time of 11.94.

Glen Lake senior Dylan Cundiff finished fourth in 400-meters at the Record-Eagle meet (52.59). Laker junior Colebrook Sutherland broke his school record time in the mile with a 4:30 on Tuesday. Sutherland finished first in the mile with a time of 4:33 at the NWC Conference championship. Glen Lake senior Tyler Bixby finished fifth in 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.02.

Glen Lake junior Benji Allen took home a conference championship Thursday in the 200meter dash with a time of 24.20, and senior Dylan Cundiff finished second with a time of 24.51.

Leland senior Jimmy Alpi finished first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.64 on Thursday.

Bixby finished first in the 300meter hurdles with a time of 43.75.

Glen Lake won a conference championship in the 4x100 and 4x200-relays with times of 46.34 and 1:35.

The Lakers two-mile relay team of Abraham Feeney, Sutherland, Bixby, and Cundiff with a time of 8:26 also claimed a conference title.

COUNTY ATHLETES COMPETING AT STATES Dozens of county athletes will be heading to Hudsonville Public Schools athletic stadium on Saturday for the MHSAA Track and Field State Championships.

The following athletes will be competing: Benji Allen (GL, 200, 4x400, 4x200), Warren Alysworth (GL, shot put, discus), Tyler Bixby (GL, 300 hurdles, 4x100, 4x200, 4x800), Dylan Cundiff (GL 400, 4x200, 4x400, 4x800), Abraham Feeney (GL, 4x800, mile, two-mile), Breckin Nerg (GL, 4x400), Noah Scott (GL, 4x100), Colebrook Sutherland (GL, 4x800, 800, mile), Emily Alaimo (GL, 4x200, 4x400), Lydia Fosmore (4x400, 4x200), Kariesue Taghon (GL, 4x400, 100, 200, 4x200), Eleanor Valkner (GL, shot put, discus) Leland will be sending junior Ella Knudsen in the 800, mile, and two-mile. Leland freshman Natalie Burpee will be going for the two-mile. Leland senior Agustin Creamer will be competing in the mile and two-mile.

Lake Leelanau St. Mary will be sending its two-mile relay team of Oliver Mitchell, Derek Graham, Garrett Grant, and Garrick Collins.
