Mary Shiner (nee Nelson) of Northport and formerly of Royal Oak, Michigan passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 95 at The Highlands in Northport on May 23, 2024.
Mary was born in Mt. Jewett, PA on Oct. 20, 1928. She graduated from Etna High School in Etna, PA in 1946. She married her husband of 63 years, George W. Shiner in 1948 and they moved to Michigan in 1952.
She raised “Her Boys” who all survive her: Rick, George M. (Karen), Jack ( Jan) and Keith (Bonnie). She is also survived by many Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
Mary, George and their sons first came to Northport in 1959 and built a cabin on Cathead Bay where they began to summer every year since 1965.
Mary enjoyed paddle boarding, hiking, beach walks, biking, basket making, knitting and other crafts, as well as “puttering” in her gardens around the cabin. Mary also enjoyed her Bingo and Detroit Tiger games.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents, brother Floyd and sister Lucille.
