LELAND – Marilyn Noreen Shaw, 93½ of Leland, passed away on June 1, 2024, in Traverse City.

Marilyn was born on December 4, 1930, in Hamtramck, Michigan, the daughter of Emil and Neva (Forrester) Anderson. On November 26, 1952, in Detroit, she married Harold T. Shaw Jr., who survives her.

Marilyn loved her family above all else. Married 71 ½ years she was the gracious hostess of numerous celebrations of every kind. Often the “life of the party” and an excellent dancer she would thrill the family ballroom dancing with Harold. She enjoyed frequent visits from friends and relatives especially her large clan of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Always ready to laugh or dispense wisdom when called for she was always in contact with her children.

Marilyn loved to play! Mahjongg, cards, computer games or a trip to the casino were a treat for her and don’t even try to beat her to the answer on “Wheel of Fortune”.

Travelling with Harold she ranged from Hawaii to Europe truly enjoying life to the fullest but was always glad to return to the beauty of her home on Lake Michigan.

Marilyn attended Michigan State University and was a dedicated homemaker and worked as a Registrar for Winning Women for Christ.

A patriot and a strong Norwegian woman two things will forever mark Marilyn as special. Her faith in the Lord and her undying love and devotion to Harold T. Shaw, Jr.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 71 ½ years, Harold; her children, Glenn (Patrice) Shaw, Karen (Brad) Hulett, and Carol (Dave) Gray, Gregory Shaw (who preceded her in death in 2020); her sister in law, Janet Hibbard; her grandchildren, Caroline (Christopher) Vincent, Brandon Shaw, Garrett Shaw, Ryan Doll, Alissa Doll, Kent (Whitney Shaw) Hulett, Amanda (Isaac) Daugherty, David (Amy) Gray, and Christy (Matthew Cerny) Gray; her great-grandchildren, Christopher Vincent, Neva Vincent, Parker Vincent, Sofie Shaw Hulett, Kylian Shaw Hulett, Adalynn Daugherty, Isaiah Daugherty, and Elliot Daugherty; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Lila ( John) Allmand and Norman (Mary) Anderson; and her sister-in-law Virginia ( Jack) Jensen and her brother-in-law, James (Bonnie) Shaw; and her son Gregory Wallace Shaw.

Marilyn’s family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her honor be sent to the Fishtown Preservation Society PO Box 721 Leland, MI 49654.
