To the editor:
Unfortunately, the pertinent wording in the Leelanau County conflict of interest policy was not included in coverage of a citizen’s request to investigate whether the chair of the Energy Futures Task Force had violated that policy.
The wording in the first line of the request reads, “A clear example of a conflict of interest occurs when a public servant openly advocates for the approval and funding of a program which would result in a benefit to the public servant.”
The chair — Joe DeFors— helped write a grant that would directly pay him and lobbied for its passage.
