Suttons Bay has a new wine shop as Happy Girl located at 405 N. St. Joseph Street opened its doors in May with a large selection of imported and local wines.

Happy Girl owner Ed Bosse has been having fun for the first few weeks of business.

“This is great for a small town.,” Bosse said. “I found that a lot of winemakers like to buy their wine here because they’re different ... Everyone thinks that their wines are better,” Bosse is originally from Rochester Hills and currently lives in Leelanau County. His business plan is focused on helping female entrepreneurs. Bosse is looking for a business partner for Happy Girl with the idea of creating stores that are owned and operated by women.

“I love being here, and the ideal thing would be to use this sort of as, a place to train people and put out new products and to help whoever comes in here. I think my job is to open stores and places, and help other people open stores and places,” Bosse said.

Bosse has opened multiple wine shops in the metro Detroit area and Florida over the past several years.

“All of our stores in the past have been 75% to 80% women ... I think it’s important to have women own and operate these types of stores,” Bosse said. “We are in a transition until I find a partner to do that with ... At that point in time, I’ll turn it (the whole business) over to women.”

The wine shop prides itself on wine choices from $15 bottle to $30, all the way up to high end bottles of wine that could run a couple of hundred dollars.

“The whole concept of tipping points. We get a couple of cool stores going, and people are having fun ... it’s set up nice,” he said.
