In loving memory of Steven Nelson Purvis, 75, of Traverse City, who peacefully passed away on May 2, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Steven was born on April 27, 1949, to Richard and Clara Purvis, and spent his entire life in Traverse City, witnessing and embracing the changes it underwent.
As the eldest of five siblings, Steven exemplified hard work and dedication from a young age. He learned the art of welding from his father at the tender age of 8, and by 12, he was proficient enough to work at his station in “the shop” at Purvis Brothers Steel Fabrication, the family business, and later at Actron Steel. Steven’s passion for aviation led him to earn his private pilot license, but it was his love for dogs that truly brought him joy throughout his life. Graduating to engineering drafting, Steven honed his skills on the job, eventually opening his own successful business. His motto, “To Do Right By People,” underscored his commitment to integrity and excellence, earning him respect and admiration in the steel fabrication community.
Steven is survived by his siblings, Christine (Gordon) Forsyth, Deborah (Paul) Newhouse, David Purvis, and Mark (Pamela) Purvis, as well as his beloved nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews: Kelly Fewins and her children Dawson, Gavin, and Lilly, Maria Purvis, Neil Purvis, Richard (Erin) Purvis their children James and Colin, Lisa Newhouse, Emily ( Jordi) Llore and their children Finn, Max and Mario, Callee Newhouse, Andrew (Cindy) Purvis their children Walter and Maddy, Nicole (Billy) Beecher and their daughter Vanessa, and his previous wife, Andrea Olson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Clara May Purvis and niece Kimberly Forsyth.
