Board adopts huge consent agenda

At their June regular session, the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners approved numerous items as part of its consent agenda, including: • The proposal for renewal of the worker’s compensation insurance coverage through Accident Fund National and Highstreet Insurance for the premium amount of $51,178, covering the term from July 1, 2024, to July 1, 2025. • The probate/family court’s Child Care Fund annual plan and budget in the amount of $807,700 for Oct.

At their June regular session, the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners approved numerous items as part of its consent agenda, including:

• The proposal for renewal of the worker’s compensation insurance coverage through Accident Fund National and Highstreet Insurance for the premium amount of $51,178, covering the term from July 1, 2024, to July 1, 2025.

• The probate/family court’s Child Care Fund annual plan and budget in the amount of $807,700 for Oct. 1, 2024, through Sept. 30, 2025.

• Allowing the sheriff’s office to send one employee out of state for training in Glynco, Georgia, on Sept. 8-12. Costs of travel, lodging, and meals will be paid by the Northern Michigan Law Enforcement Training Group.

• Allowing the sheriff’s office to proceed with an employed recruit and enter into the Public Safety Academy Assistance program/ grant process with the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Northwestern Michigan College for the police academy that starts on Aug. 21, 2024.

• Tower lease space agreements for T-Mobile at the Central and Maple City Tower sites and authorized the county board chairman to sign each agreement, pending final approval from corporate counsel.

• The service agreement and software license with Enhanced Voting, LLC. According to executive documents, the fee was $1,500.

• An agreement with Comfort Keepers to provide personal care, respite care, homemaking, medication management, foot care, transportation to medical appointments, and mobile medical device beginning June 1, 2024, through Dec. 31, 2026. Comfort Keepers will charge at fixed rates per visit.

• Awarding a contract for asphalt repair, sealcoating, and striping of the government center campus to Molon Asphalt, Inc., in the amount of $36,597.

• An interlocal agreement with Grand Traverse and Benzie counties for the purpose of working towards creating a multi-county materials management plan.

• An agreement for professional services with Machin Engineering, Inc., for the design and bidding of the Leland Dam walkway, with the estimated cost of the project being $66,600.

• Applying for a county veterans service fund grant offered by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency.

• Authorizing increasing the parks and recreation capital outlay line item from $55,000 to $110,000 and to move this $110,000 to a newly established capital projects line item, with funds to come from the general fund.

• Authorizing the advertising for and interviewing three citizens to serve on the joint airport zoning board, with three commissioners to make a recommendation on/or before Aug. 20, 2024.

• Issuing a request for proposals for the installation of material under the playground equipment at Veronica Valley and Old Settlers parks.

• Accepting the proposed contract with the Leelanau County Family Coordinating Council for the management of opioid settlement funds in the amount of $64,000.

• Declaring some vehicles, boat, and file cabinets as surplus and allowing the administration to sell these assets by special auction or competitive sealed bids.

• The defined benefit plan adoption agreement with the municipal employee’s retirement system (MERS), the customized definition of compensation addendum, and a resolution authorizing signatories for MERS contracts and service credit purchase approvals.

• Amending the current nonunion wage schedule by adding a new position titled “temporary specialist/seasonal,” with wages for specialized coverage in four steps of $19.88, $21.63, $23.41, and $25.18.
