The 4th of July celebration was it’s usual gangbusters time in Glen Arbor. The Stan Brubaker Anything Goes parade was great and very little water was shot. Many more military trucks etc. this year for some reason and Jim Dorsey look great in the back of the Cadillac as parade marshal. The fireworks as expected on the bay started when the sun went down and lasted for at least an hour and a half. It sounded like World War III. The entire weekend was slammed and on Monday morning we were back to normal.
We can look forward to Anchor Day in Empire, the third Saturday of July. As always, I’m sure it will start with the parade which will go around twice in case you missed it and then enjoy the Empire Lions Club Chicken Dinner which will be held this year at Johnson Park from 1 to 7 p.m. If everything goes according to the past years, after eating chicken head back to “downtown” Empire for a Street dance.
Summer tax bills have been sent out, and I am sure some people were shocked to see the school tax on the summer and not on the winter tax bills. Not much you can do folks except pay them.
Get ready for the Glen Arbor Women’s Club’s annual Running Bear Run to be held Tuesday the 23rd.
I’m certain that our emergency services pancake breakfast was a huge success, unfortunately we were unable to partake in the goodies. We can be very proud of our emergency services and fire Department were lucky to have them.
Coming up, the annual Glen Lake Women’s Club Art Fair which will be held Wednesday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Glen Arbor Township Hall. The art fair features artists selected to represent a wide variety of one of a kind art pieces for sale at the Glen arbor Township Hall. All proceeds from the art fair support scholarships for Glen Lake Community School students. Since 1980 the Glen Lake Women’s Club has awarded $325,000 to 245 students attending Northwestern Michigan College.

The smoke has cleared and we’re back to whatever normal is in the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. It’s time to enjoy ourselves and where we live. Thank you to all of the patriots that had a flag out and proudly celebrated Independence Day.
I have found that George Burns was right when he said, “By the time you’re 80 years old you have learned everything, you only have to remember it.”
Be safe. Be kind. Have fun. Watch for dogs and traffic.
Go patriotism!
