Fair journalism

To the editor: Regarding John Elchert’s opinion piece, the headline should have been “Democracy needs FAIR journalism” (addition of FAIR mine). And then our Leelanau Enterprise Publisher might have spoken about his plans to make that happen at the paper.

Any casual observer can see the unfair political slant in Enterprise coverage every week.

In last week’s edition alone, the unwarranted front page shot taken at Melinda Lautner is a perfect example. A second example was the allowance of two political support letters for Ty Wessell, after the paper exclaimed that there would be no political letters published until after the primary.

Editor’s note: The newspaper reached out to Commissioner Lautner directly regarding a possible violation of the Open Meetings Act and FOIA request. The letters in support of Commissioner Wessell were published because they were unrelated to the Aug. 6 primary election. Wessell is not on the ballot.
