To the editor:
Jet skis are banned at the Lakeshore and at the Homestead. Yet a small handful of selfish, irresponsible people launch from Glen Arbor and go back and forth on the lake.
These jet skiers cause noise pollution for the hundreds of people seeking the enjoy the peace and quiet of our beautiful beaches. They are a nuisance and danger for wildlife and for kayakers, SUPers, swimmers, windsurfers, sailors, and small fishing boats. There is no positive economic benefit to allowing them.
Glen Arbor Township needs to pass an ordinance banning launching jet skis from public access sites. Perhaps this needs to be done country wide.
This is one of the many clear examples where public good and public safety outweigh the ideology that an individual should have the “freedom” to behave irresponsibly at the expense of others.
