SB Football wants a comeback

Suttons Bay football is ready for a comeback season in 2024 as the Norseman hope to improve upon a 3-5 record in 2023. After years of handling top competition in 8-man football, the Norsemen are poised to make some noise after a down year.

Suttons Bay football is ready for a comeback season in 2024 as the Norseman hope to improve upon a 3-5 record in 2023.

After years of handling top competition in 8-man football, the Norsemen are poised to make some noise after a down year.

The Norsemen will be returning several seniors including quarterback Grayson Opie, Luke Bramer, Jackson Loucks and more.

Loucks is excited for his senior year with the group he has been playing with for years.

“I played football with these guys all the way through high school and middle school. I’m trying to make the most of it, do the best we can, get to playoffs, do what we can with what we got,” he said.

Louck’s said the team is working, listening to coaches, and staying focused on their goals.

The Norsemen will be hoping to get the offense going early and often.

“Once a week, we’ve been getting together, running routes, working out together, training for this upcoming season,” Bramer said. “It’s a crazy feeling knowing this is my senior season. I’m going to give it my all because I know I won’t be able to step on the field ever again. I’m going to work hard and hopefully it’ll pay off.”

Bramer and his teammates will be hanging their hats on defense this year to lead the team.

Suttons Bay coach Garrick Opie is happy to have seniors on the team this year after graduating only three last year.

“We had very few last year, but we’ve got some good guys who have been in the program quite a while, and they’ve matured a lot. They’ve all been working very hard in the weight room. They’re excited about this year,” Opie said.

Opie is the dad and coach of his youngest son, Grayson Opie, who admits it's a crazy feeling for him after all three of his kids have gone through the program. Coach Opie is happy with how the team has prepared over the offseason.

“They came out knowing plays already and knowing the playbook, and we’ve already run through everything. Now we’re just working on technique and making sure that we’re dialed in,” he said. “We’ve got a good mixture of guys ... We will pull some things out of the bag that you probably haven’t seen much of.”
