To the editor:
Oh please! Let’s use what we already have — we don’t need “porta johns” in our parking lot, on the village main street. It is needed for that and donated for parking. The two bathrooms we presently have — Haserot Park and playground — are both centrally located and available to the public. If the council voted to “open carry” in town — they can rehab both for use.
The “open carry” OK vote will require more. Trash containers, security, trash pickup, benches and medical personnel. The “tipplers” that we will attract will not improve the store sales, as they are unable to have open containers inside. The whole new process will present more disturbing instances than you ever expected.
What is the council thinking with rulings made that aren’t approved by our general public. We are Northporters too and would welcome some logical representation in our village. None of the recent items have been put before our citizens. A bad and unhealthy situation at best. Your village deserves better and more discussion about items that affect us all.
No, I am not a complainer — I genuinely care about Northport. We cannot be “run” by a few individuals and we deserve more respect and consideration of our views. Those of you who know us, know how much be have enjoyed our last 25 years here. It is a sweet, friendly, not to be found in many other places these days, small harbor town.
Let’s keep it by enhancing what we have. Change will come slowly.
