Lake Leelanau St. Mary (3-51) volleyball defeated Brethren in three sets on Tuesday 25-22, 28-26, 25-23.
The Eagles were led by a strong hitting performance from senior Kyla Barnowski with six aces, eight kills, nine digs, and one block on the night.
St. Mary senior Cathryn Mikowski contributed 12 digs, eight kills, three aces. Maggie Ursu provided an all-around performance with four kills, 10 digs, and four assists, followe by Madelyn Hamilton with five kills and one block; Daisy Serrano five digs; Lydia Bramer five digs, one ace, and 26 assists.
St. Mary hosted Suttons Bay yesterday as of press time.
At a quad hosted by Suttons Bay, St. Mary went 2-1 on Aug. 21. St. Mary started the day with a 25-13, 25-17 win over Mesick, followed by a 25-12, 25-20 win over Central Lake.
Suttons Bay would get the Eagle number in the final game of the day 23-25, 24-26.
Stats: Barnowski 17 kills, 15 digs, five aces; Mikowski 10 kills, 13 digs, three aces; Ursu seven kills, nine digs, 10 aces; Bramer 31 assists, eight digs, one block.
The Eagles turned around the next day on Aug. 22 for another tournament this time at Bay City Western.
The Eagles went 0-3-1 on the day, but against much bigger schools. St. Mary lost to Bay City Western, Gladwin, and Swan Valley. The Eagles did split with Haslett.
