One new and another, more familiar face will greet Suttons Bay students when they return to classrooms next week.

Christopher Reeve is the school’s new K-12 principal. He and his family are coming from the greater Grand Rapids area, where he most recently served as a principal with Allegan Public Schools. His career in education 12 years ago with six of those years in the classroom and six as an administrator. He graduated from Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in education. His master’s degree in educational leadership is from Grand Valley State University.

Reeve’s first years were spent teaching middle school social studies in Muskegon Heights. Then after a few years, he taught middle and high school social studies at Grand Rapids Public Schools.

“At the time, this was my dream teaching job as I was working in a school only two miles from my home in the heart of the city,” Reeve said in an introduction on the school’s Facebook page. “I eventually left the classroom to take an administrative position with Allegan Public Schools.”

There, he work five years as the middle school assistant principal and one year as principal.

“The team at Suttons Bay Public schools has been incredibly welcoming and we’re excited to meet everyone,” he said.

He will be working alongside Elizabeth Wadsworth, who was appointed last month as elementary assistant principal and director of professional development.

Wadsworth, a longtime and six-year teacher at the school, has this new position, created with the resignation of Shelagh Fehrenbach in June.

“I could have stayed in my kindergarten/first grade comfort zone forever, but I’m excited to continue in a new capacity,” Wadsworth said.

Compensation for the new employees was set at $101,110 for the K-12 principal; and $80,000 for the elementary assistant principal/ director of professional learning.

Both Reeve and Wadsworth will be at tonight’s school open house night from 4:30 to 6 where students can meet their teachers and see their classrooms.
