Glen Lake is setting sail on the 2024 school year on Tuesday with high hopes of student achievement.

“We feel really good heading into the school year,” Glen Lake Superintendent Jason Misner said.

The Lakers are heading into the school year with roughly 790 students K-12 with preschool included. These numbers are up from 746 from last year.

Glen Lake designated $3.5 million on Monday to begin its HVAC replacement with a focus of getting plans done in November with a goal of construction spanning from April to September 2025.

“There’s a pretty good window to get it done,” Misner said.

The Lakers also moved to purchase a new fire panel for $47,500 that is needed for the Glen Lake’s new secure entrances on Monday.

Glen Lake has several new teachers and they are still looking for more bus drivers.

The Lakers will not be using the drop-off stop off M-72 that helped out-of-district students with transportation. The decision stems from a lack of bus drivers.

“We are shuffling some things around. We are tight on bus drivers and routes,” Misner said.

The Lakers added four paraprofessionals to the team over the past week with Rachel Verschaeve, Melissa Benovic, Avalon Davidson, and Cortney McRannolds.

Glen Lake also added TC Mavis Jennings as the Fall Theater Director and Natalie Blalock Jennings as the Fall Assistant Play Director.

Going into year three as superintendent, Misner believes the move was the right choice.

“Watching the dedication the community has for children is unparalleled,” Misner said.

Glen Lake middle school principal DinaRocheleau saysthe school has three brand new teachers staring their careers as Lakers.

The middle school will also welcome eight new students (7 boys, 1 girls).

Rocheleau has deployed some of the best Laker students to make sure the transition is smooth for the newcomers.

“Never eat alone,” she said.

In the elementary, principal Ryan Shrock, is excited to announce that the second grade class size went from 31 to 39 over the past year.
