Censorship

To the editor: Kevin Spivak’s recent Real Clear Politics commentary underlines a critical difference between Republican and Democrat leadership. Republicans stand for free speech, and Democrats, who used to, support suppression of what they define as misinformation.

Kevin Spivak’s recent Real Clear Politics commentary underlines a critical difference between Republican and Democrat leadership. Republicans stand for free speech, and Democrats, who used to, support suppression of what they define as misinformation.

With the First Amendment, our country’s founders understood that one person’s information is another’s misinformation, and counted on the free exchange of facts and opinions to clarify the truth. That’s worked for almost 250 years, but Democrats’ fear/understanding that their arguments are not persuasive has changed them.

Political movements that stifl e speech are invariably dangerous to free societies. Democrat embrace of censorship is exactly that.
