1956 ~ 2024

James Andrew Moquin, age 68, of Traverse City, MI, was called home, August 21, 2024.

Jim was born on July 8, 1956 in Dearborn, MI to Herman & Edith Moquin. He was 1 of 8 children. When his father passed away, Jim was 12 years old and assisted in the care of his brother, Andrew. He encouraged his beloved brother to become an electrician and built his home on Country Club Drive in Traverse City. Jim grew up attending Catholic School, and it was important to him that his sons received the same education. He also made sure his sons attended college and invested in their endeavors. Jim has already invested in his young daughter’s (Oliviella) Catholic School and future education.

James was the President of Moquin Construction and Window World of NW Michigan. He has been a residential/ commercial General Contractor since 1979 and has been involved in many projects throughout Northern Michigan. He and his wife (Tammy) invested in Window World of NW Michigan for Jim’s son, Jonathan. He guided his brother-inlaw, Jeff, with his career in FEMA. He was also instrumental in assisting family and friends with their own endeavors, companies, and education, which included building their homes, cottages, remodeling projects and repairs throughout the years. Jim also developed and built homes on the Grand Traverse Golf Course Country Club Woods. He and his wife worked with the Traverse City Commission on Housing, Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, and participated in numerous projects for disabled individuals. He has built homes and commercial buildings throughout Grand Traverse and Leelanau County.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 25 years, Tamela, and his children: Jonathan, Jesse, Oliviella, including many more loving relatives.

Jim was a devoted Christian having found great strength in his faith. Every Sunday he was ready to hear the word of the Lord.

Members of the Catholic faith have visited and prayed with him and his family.

As Jim’s health declined, he enjoyed playing with his daughter, watching the Detroit Tigers, long drives sight-seeing, and eating at the local restaurants. Jim was a “foodie” and enjoyed cooking as he would announce what his family was having first thing in the morning. Every holiday, James insisted on bringing the bread, dessert, and flowers for the host. Throughout the years, he insisted on going to Elk Rapids Harbor Days, Cherry Festival parades and concerts. Even in his suffering, he would sing to Oliviella, play, and hold her adoringly.

Per Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place and his remains will be scattered at one of his favorite beaches.

This year, Munson Hospice held butterfly releases early in August 2024 in remembrance of those the community has loved and lost. Special remembrance events are held annually by Munson Hospice and anyone who is experiencing a loss is encouraged to visit munsonhealthcare.org or call 800252-2065 to find out more about events in the future.

A passion of James was volunteering for AA as he would spend time guiding those suffering with resources. He had the gift of counseling and compassion. James was a proud member of the Elks Lodge of Traverse City and enjoyed the Blue Angels at the gatherings with friends.

While our hearts mourn the loss, we take comfort he is no longer suffering. In Jim’s final thoughts he shared his love and pride for his wife and children.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Jim’s honor to Munson Hospice House, who took great care of him and helped him pass away peacefully in his final days.
