LELAND - Marjorie McMillan Weinheimer, 89, of Leland, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024, at home.
Marjorie was born in, Fort Collins, Colorado, to Chester (Chet) McMillan and Ruth Smigelow McMillan. On August 3, 1962, in Denver, Colorado, she married Roger Lee Weinheimer Sr., who preceded her in death on January 17, 2003.
Marjorie grew up in a small town, Raton, New Mexico, with her parents and twin sister, Margaret. Her parents owned a family title company business. For recreation, the family enjoyed visiting their cabin at Bear Creek, where Marjorie rode her horse, “Apache,” learned how to shoot a rifle and drive a jeep. Marjorie graduated from Raton High School in 1952, subsequently she moved away to attend Principia College in Elsah, IL where she graduated with honors in 1956. Marjorie married Roger Weinheimer Sr., a widower with three young children in 1962. Marjorie enjoyed a long career as a dedicated English teacher, consistently winning ‘outstanding teacher’ awards from students and faculty alike over her 25 years as an educator. In 1987, Marjorie and Roger retired to Leland where they became active members in the Leland community, and in the First Church of Christ Scientist, in Glen Arbor. Their faith was integral to their lives. After her husband, Roger, passed away in 2003, Marjorie continued active involvement in the church and in a variety of community organizations. A respected and beloved friend and matriarch, Marjorie will be remembered as an intelligent, independent and generous woman who stood on principle, and fostered her deep love for family and community through the younger generations.
Marjorie is survived by her children, Gayle Finger, Sara Weinheimer, and Roger (Carla) Weinheimer Jr.; her grandchildren, Jennifer Reutter, Kathryn Anderson, Paige Weinheimer, Nicholas Weinheimer, Eugene DiBenedetto, Jennifer Pura, Adam DiBenedetto, and Thomas Pura; her great-grandchildren, Matthew and Sofia DiBenedetto, Felix and Beau Reutter, Clara, Violet, and James Anderson, Owen and Lila Weinheimer; and her nieces, Lisa Rennie Sytsma, and Karen Rennie.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 40 years, Roger Weinheimer; and her sister, Margaret Rennie.
Cremation has taken place and private family services have been held.
