St. Mary wins; Suttons Bay rebounds

Lake Leelanau St. Mary (5-51) defeated Glen Lake in four sets last Thursday 25-23, 23-25, 25-19, 25-16.

St. Mary was led by Lydia Bramer, Kyla Barnowski, Cathryn Mikowski, Maggie Ursu, Natalie Albu, and Mackenzie Schaub.

Bramer had 10 aces, 26 assists, 2 blocks, 8 digs; Barnowski 16 kills, 7 digs, 4 aces, 1 block; Ursu 4 kills, 9 digs, 2 aces, 1 block; Albu 3 digs, 3 aces; Schaub 3 kills, 2 blocks.

For Glen Lake, Andi Forton hustled on defense and earned 17 digs. Avery Flores has seven kills with eight blocks.

Suttons Bay volleyball took down Grand Traverse Academy in four sets on Tuesday.

The Norse won in clutch moments of a close game. Suttons Bay won game one 25-19 which was answered by GTA 25-12 in game two. Suttons Bay would take the next to sets 27-25 in set three, and 25-22 in set four to finish the game.

Suttons Bay freshman Ava Anderson led the way with 15 kills. Junior Megan U’Ren was all over the court with 11 kills and 14 digs. Suttons Bay junior Bekka Grant had 19 digs and six assists on the night.

The Norse rebounded after losing to Manistee in four sets 17-25, 25-20, 22-25, 17-25 last week.

Anderson and U’Ren combined for 22 digs. U’Ren added 13 digs and four aces. Grant had 38 digs and Yasmin Alfonsec had 14 digs and three kills.
