The Glen Lake Tennis Team went 2-1 at Whitehall on Saturday. Glen Lake convincingly beat two Div. 4 teams and lost to Div. 1 Grand Haven after tying them two weeks ago.

On this day, they lost 6-2 to Grand Haven.

Glen Lake won all eight matches against Harbor Springs.

Glen Lake sophomore Hawthorne Sutherland moved up to number one singles while his brother Colebrook ran in a cross-country meet in Buckley.

Hawthorne won 6-0, 6-0. Glen Lake seniors Michael Houtteman and Ben Selby also won after moving up a spot. Laker sophomore Porter Martin moved over from his usual doubles spot to win in the four singles match, 6-1, 6-1. In doubles, Harbor Springs gave Glen Lake slightly more fight with Oliver Mitchell and Ben Romzek winning in a No. 1 doubles match. In the No. 2 double match, Bryce Cundiff and senior Andrew Schopieray won 6-3, 6-2. Glen Lake freshman Owen Pierce and Will Krusel won with an identical score at No. 3 doubles.

Glen Lake’s Kyra Lamb and Elliott MacTavish won the closest match in a coed game against Harbor Springs, 4-6, 7-5, 10-1 in a third set tiebreaker.

“You may believe after 9 hours of tennis things would get boring,” said Glen Lake coach JohnnyVoss, “but not with Glen Lake. I was so proud of our team chemistry, energy, and willingness to fight for every point. Even with our number 1 player out for the match the team didn’t doubt themselves for a second.”

Lamb and MacTavish played a thriller against Whitehall at the end of nine hour tennis day. The court was covered with long shadows as Glen Lake lost the first set in a tiebreaker. Then, they were down 0-4 in the second set and fought their way back to tie the second set up 6-6. Unfortunately, they lost in a second tiebreaker, 7-3. Overall, Glen Lake won all other flights for a 7-1 match win against Whitehall.

“Our Glen Lake team showed a lot of class and comradery in the final minutes of our nailbiter of a match at 4 doubles. It was great to see them all come together to support each other all the way through to the very end,” Voss said.

The second doubles team of Cundiff and Schopieray and fourth singles player Martin went the day undefeated.
