Stepping up for the Zywicki family

Word spread quickly Labor Day after Richard Zywicki, (the hardware man) owner of Cedar Hardware, had a catastrophic golf cart accident.

And it wasn’t long before people stepped forward to help.

Mr. Zywicki sustained a head injury and as of Tuesday, one week post accident, remained in the drug-induced coma, allowing his brain time to recover.

And while family gathered near his bedside, people in the community began to come together to help the Zywickis.

A GoFundMe account established by Zywicki’s sister-inlaw, Tannelle Budd, quickly met its initial goal of $15,000.

In the week since, more than 540 donations have been made, totaling nearly $90,000.

Donations range from $5 to $2,500 and include people the family knows through Holy Rosary Church and store customers who were on the receiving end of Mr. Zywicki’s valuable home improvement advice.

Like a water droplet hitting a puddle, Mr. Zywicki’s kindness and his helpfulness has impacted people all over the county. And many of these have contributed well beyond the environs of the Cedar swamp.Through social media, a meal train was organized giving the community an opportunity to help out the family with a meal.

Meanwhile, friends and family continue to pray for Mr. Zywicki and his family.

Good job, Cedar, the “community that cares.”
