NORTHPORT, MI – With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Norman Howard Wilson, 95, of Northport, MI. Norm passed away Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Northport Highlands with his family at his side.
Norman was born January 17, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the son of Stewart and Della (Thurston) Wilson. Norm served his nation in the U.S. Army Air Corps, traveling Europe playing baseball on the Air Corp Team, where he met his beautiful and loving wife of 59 years Joan (Potts). Norm and Joan (deceased) were married on July 28, 1949 in England and moved to the US shortly after World War 2 where they lived a long and loving life raising their 7 children.
The only thing he loved more than the Detroit Lions was his time with family. Norm attended every Lions game he could, held season tickets for over 20 years and was honored to meet the legendary, Barry Sanders during the last Lions game he ever attended.
Norm built his dream retirement home on the shore of Traverse Bay in the community of Northport, where he spent many wonderful years golfing, swimming and enjoying the company of his friends made throughout his golden years.
Above all Norm was a passionate family man. His wife, 5 daughters and 2 sons meant the world to him. Norm shared the last 12 years of his life with his loving companion, Dorothy Schobel.
Norm is survived by his six children, Marie (Lee) O’Brien, Deborah (Loren) Fishaw-Venegas, Denise (Tim-deceased) Dybas, Karen (Ron-deceased) Maruska, Norman “Stewart” (Heide) Wilson and Robert (Rosa) Wilson; many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joan (deceased March 18, 2009); his first daughter, Susan (Kirk-deceased) Smith, his granddaughter, Jillian Denise Fishaw and great-granddaughter, Adelaide Everlee Hines.
Burial will be in Leelanau Township Cemetery and a Celebration of Norm’s life will be announced at a later date.
