With the new academic year well underway, the Northport Public School Board of Education (BOE) approved a formal student group sponsorship process at its regular meeting on Sept. 9.
The approval will give students and personnel a clear and uniform process when proposing a new club at school, said Northport Superintendent Neil Wetherbee, adding that basic information like the club’s name, participating students, and meeting dates will be required when organizing a group.
“Quite often, we have new clubs that are formed… but we didn’t have a process for someone starting a club,” Wetherbee said. “Now, we have one way of making sure we start a club with all the information that we need… It could be students or staff who are interested in forming an after school club or a before school club. So this will make sure we have all the information on one sheet.”
