Leland soccer has had itself a very busy week as the Comets went 3-0 with massive wins over rivals.

On Monday, Leland defeated TC St. Francis 3-0 as Nano Creamer, Liam Waskiewicz and Evan Keen all scored goals.

Leland goalkeeper Ravello Smith earned the shutout with three saves against TC St. Francis.

Leland also defeated its common playoff foe WMC 4-2 on Saturday.

“It’s nice to get that win,” Leland coach Rob Sirrine said.

Landon Allen had a goal and assists: Adrian Spencer scored twice; Max Waldrup scored; Jose Roman two assists; Weston Burda assists; Smith had six saves in the win.

The Comets may see WMC again this year in the regional final after facing them in the state semifinals over the past couple of seasons.

“We have to keep doing the right things no matter who we play,”Sirrine said.

They will also play TC St. Francis again before the regular season ends.

“We need to play one game at a time, like everyone always says, and get into the playoffs and hopefully keep it rolling. The main thing is just keeping healthy too. We’ve still got a couple nagging injuries with guys just like most teams do,” Sirrine said. “We’ve played some really good teams over the past month or two and we haven’t even had a full squad yet,” Sirrine said.

The Comets also defeated Benzie last Wednesday 8-0.

Lakers win

Glen Lake soccer earned two decisive victories over Buckley and Benzie.

The Lakers took care of business against Buckley 5-0 with goals from Sawyer Homa, Ollie O’Neil (2 goals), Bartolomeo Zunio (goal), while Anthony Forton won the game in a shutout.

Glen Lake turned around and defeated Benzie 8-2. Homa score twice with two assists; Ezra Belanger 2 goals; Hunter Cox 1 goal 1 assist; Ollie O’Neal 1 goal 1 assist; Justin Thompson goal; Anthony Forton assist; Bart Zunino assist; Eli Maule assist; Ryder Needham, Forton Zunino combined for 8 saves between the three of them.

SB defeats Buckley, Benzie 

Suttons Bay defeated Buckley 2-0 in a physical match on Monday.

Suttons Bay forwards Niko Francis and Lake Leelanau St. Mary junior James Bunek scored on assists by Isaac Martin and Julian Calderon.

Both goals were scored in the second half to catapult the Lakers to a 2-0 win.

Jacob Davis led with 10 saves in the shutout.

Conner Sahs recorded 11 steals and had one non-goalie save at the goal line to preserve the shutout.

Saturday, Suttons Bay lost to Gaylord 2-0. Ty Brenner had nine saves on 10 shots and Jacob Davis had four saves on five shots. Graham Martin, Josh Bunek and Conner Sahs each had 5 steals/ intercepts defensively for the Norsemen. Gaylord would go on and lose in the finals to Marquette.

At the Weber Invitational, Suttons Bay defeated TC Bulldogs 9-3. The Norse recorded four gails in the first half and five in the second.

Julian Calderon and Isaac Martin each recorded a hat trick, Graham Martin added 2 goals and James Bunek had 1. Assists were recorded by James Bunek (2), Jorge Gomez, Ty Brenner, Cole Anderson, Isaac Martin, Julian Calderon and Josh Bunek. Jacob Davis recorded three saves on six shots.

This would be the second win in a row for Suttons Bay against TC Bulldogs as last Wednesday they defeated the Bulldogs 4-2 Bunek, Calderon, and Cole Anderson would score. Josh scored his first varsity game winner and Avery Kelley scored his first varsity point.
