Comets capture first

Leland girls cross country took first as a team and individually at the Logger Invitational in Boyne Falls on Saturday.

The Comets next race will be on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at the Northwest Conference meet taking place in Glen Lake.

Leland senior Ella Knudsen finished first with a time of 20:47 followed by her teammates Sophie Grinage in third (21:45), and Natalie Burpee in seventh with a time of 22:48.

“Our girl’s team completed the race with four medals,” Leland coach Ann Knudsen said. “This was the first time the girls competed together as a team and they earned a first place finish as a team.”

Alyssa Korson set a personal record with a 26th place finishing time of 30:18. Lorna Wiesen also had an impressive 17th place finish with a time of 27:05.
