To the editor:
I live in Cleveland Township, I walk the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail often and I give money to TART Trails. I firmly support the Section 9 extension - and completion - of the trail.
After numerous community meetings, environmental and technical studies dating back to 2008 and 2010, I think it is time to start construction, so that the many users of the Trail will have an end-to-end, accessible trail from Empire through to Good Harbor Trail.
Yes, it will be expensive — but the cost is borne by the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore, and private contributors, such as myself. Leelanau County, and Cleveland Township, are not part of any funding.
Please, let’s end the delays and make this trail extension a reality for the many, many people who treasure our Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
