Glen Lake (3-1) traveled south to Reed City (3-1) on Friday for a clash of top-10 Div. 8 football No. 8-ranked Glen Lake Lakers versus Div. 6 No. 7-ranked Reed City Coyotes.
Reed City led Glen Lake 12-7 at the end of the first quarter.
“This shows them we can compete with top teams in our conference and in northern Michigan,” Glen Lake coach Jesse Smith said.
That score would stay the same throughout the second quarter as both offenses stalled and defenses shined.
In the third quarter, Glen Lake jumped on top 14-12. Reed City then broke free on the ground, rushing for 300 yards on 55 carries, most of it coming with less than six minutes in the third and throughout the fourth quarter.
Glen Lake sophomore Dominic Stein made himself known with 17 tackles in the loss. Coach Smith praised the Lakers defensive line that fought hard despite being outsized by Reed City.
The Lakers now travel to defending conference champions East Jordan for a crucial showdown Friday at 7 p.m.
Glen Lake will be looking to avenge last year’s 26-3 loss at home.
