Suttons Bay swept Mason County Eastern Tuesday in three sets.

The Norse started and never stopped winning 25-16, 25-15, 25-10.

Ava Anderson led with 15 kills, nine digs, Cece Koleno had five kills, and Bekka Grant had 15 digs and one ace. Anna Porter also had five kills and three aces.

Getting 1% better each day,” Grant said.

Suttons Bay will travel to Glen Lake today for a primetime matchup against the Lakers at 7 p.m.

This has been one of the more competitive seasons for local volleyball teams that has seen many lopsided seasons in years past.

“I’m really happy with our team. I think we’ve been doing really good. We want to get our middles more hits. We’ve been working on that,” U’Ren said.

Leland’s ‘Forever Dig Abby’ Monday

Leland will be hosting its annual 'Forever Dig Abby'game against Suttons Bay on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Forever Dig Abby fundraiser contributes to the overwhelming cost that’s associated with having a child who’s ill.

In 2010, Abby Gross, daughter of Jeanne (McClure) Gross was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

At the time, there wasn’t, and still isn’t treatment available in Traverse City for such a rare and life threatening disease.

Over the years, when the need wasn’t as great for Abby’s family, Leland started reaching out to benefit different people in the area.

Last year’s fundraiser went to Cecily Neddo, a third grade student at Leland who was diagnosed with brain cancer.

The Comets defeated Benzie in three sets 25-22, 25-19, 25-18 Thursday.

Leland was led by seniors Abby Hicks and Kally Sluiter with seven and eight kills, respectively. Hicks and Sluiter also had 12 and 17 digs, while Aubrey Rousseau had 10 digs herself.

Abby Martini, Cielle Fort combined for 10 kills in the win.
