SUTTONS BAY — Christine Marie Gentner, 64, of Suttons Bay, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

Chris was born on August 16, 1960, in St. Clair Shores, MI, to John and Anita (McPherson) DeVriendt.

On September 26, 1981, she married the love of her life, Mark Gentner, who survives her.

A graduate of Croswell Lexington High School, Chris continued her education at St. Clair County Community College before dedicating over 30 years of her career to the Cardiac Cath Lab at Munson Medical Center. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her deep love for her family and her zest for life.

Chris had a deep connection to the water. Whether kayaking along Michigan’s lakeshores or soaking in the beauty of Cozumel, Mexico—where she and Mark vacationed every year for the past 30 years—she found peace and joy in the outdoors. The two also enjoyed traveling across the U.S. in their camper, from Michigan’s scenic roads to the Florida Keys.

Creative and full of life, Chris had a knack for photography, capturing precious moments with family and friends. She loved all holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas, often handcrafting costumes and turning her home into a festive celebration. Her generosity and love for children were evident in how she treated every child as her own, spending time doing crafts and making memories.

Chris is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Mark; her daughters, Amy DeVriendt and Sarah Gentner; her siblings, Eric Devriendt, Brian DeVriendt, Vinny (Jennifer) DeVriendt, Paula Richards (Dave), John (Rachel) DeVriendt, and Cathy (Bud); and her cherished grandchildren, Cassidy, Ruby, Maron, Carly, Kane, and a grandchild on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial donations in Chris’ honor may be directed to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.

A celebration of Chris’ life will be announced at a later date.
