Leland, Glen Lake and Lake Leelanau St. Mary participated in the Shepherd Bluejay Invitational Saturday.
Three Leland girls earned medals including senior Ella Knudsen finishing second with a time of 20:00, freshman Sophie Grinage finishing in 14th place with a time of 21:11, and sophomore Natalie Burpee finishing 18th place with a time of 21:26.
Leland senior Alyssa Korson participated in the race as well.
“It was a great weekend of team bonding. The encouragement and support this team provides for each other is incredible. It’s fun to watch how much they truly enjoy being around each other,” Leland cross country coach Ann Knudsen said.
Leland boy runners also had a successful day including three personal records.
Carter Suttmann finished 24th with a time of 18:01; Campbell Fedderman 18:38 (41st); Chas Denoyer finished 93rd with a time of 20:40.
“The friendship of this group of boys was very evident over the weekend and I look forward to watching those bonds grow stronger over the next few years,” Knudsen said.
Leland’s next race will be on Tuesday, October 8 at the Northwest Conference meet taking place in Benzie.
In the boys race, Glen Lake senior Colebrook Sutherland finished third with a time of 16:13 for an impressive finish.
Laker sophomore Abraham Feeney finished ninth at the massive invitational with a time of 16:50. Liam McCaw also had an impressive 15th place finish with a time of 17:13. Lincoln Bailey ran well, finishing 31st (18:15).
Other finishers include Britton Wheeler 61st (19:15), Dean McKellar 76th (20:35), CVason Adams finished 233 with a time of 20:40, Miles Wright finished with a time of 20:48.
For the girls, Glen Lake freshman Carmella Julian finished ninth with a time of 20:36.
Alayna Ottenbacher finished 40th with a time of 22:54; Lilli Migazzi 23:27; Jessie Pugh 25:40; Taylor Randolph 25:58; Robin Lane 27:36.
