Glen Lake Community Schools, the largest district in Leelanau County, has a thriving performing arts program with multiple programs scheduled in December alone.

The first performance will be from Glen Lake’s high school theater program, which will present a murder-mystery comedy called “The Alibis” on Dec. 7, 8, and 9 at 7 p.m. in the auditeria under the direction of Bill Dungjen, Emily Gordon, and Oliver Roberts. The story follows when an eccentric billionaire, J. Leslie Arlington (played by Sidney Martin), is murdered, and a clueless detective (played by Davanie Kamps) finds the suspects are all reluctant to admit their alibis because they were all committing other ridiculous crimes at the time. Gordon, assistant director, said some of those ridiculous crimes include “theft of a confection from a minor” (starring Mackenzie Gordon and Evelyn Roeder) and “hamster murder” (starring Vivienne Roberts, Oliver Toomey, Maisy Carroll, and Dexter Martin). Tickets for the show are $5 and are sold at the door.

“This is a door slamming comedy mystery on a grand scale,” Dungjen said. “The kids have embraced the silliness and fun of the script and will turn in a great performance. It’s so much work, but they have taken it to school!“ Show rehearsals started in mid-September, with actors practicing three to four times a week. There’s a total of 13 actors in grades 6-12 and two students running the sound and light boards.
