To the editor:
Do you find yourself restless, fed-up, COVID tired, politically exhausted? Then I encourage you to take a break.
At midnight, go outside, place your bare feet on Earth — be grounded. Now look up and see the stars above you. Carefully locate the Big Dipper (Ursa Major).
A little to the east of Ursa Major, is Ursa Minor, the Little Dipper. At the end of the handle the Little Dipper lives Polaris, the North Star.
Polaris is an ancient guiding star for those brave mariners and explorers proceeding us. Polaris is the premier reference point, in our universe of vanishing common denominators.
So where do we, puny human beings, fit into this stellar universe? For sure we are poetically all on the same bus, with the same driver in a common destiny. But we need to contemplate that destiny and get our crap together, work together, gather our critical thinking skills, be skeptical of our information sources and realize that rational scientific inquire, collection human knowledge and philosophical contemplation has been working pretty well for over 1,000 years.
We have accepted the mantle of “human beings” and we have the potential wisdom to be humans in the act of “being and becoming.”
After all, we are not known as human “pretendings.”
Most people are reasonable, thoughtful and do care about you and your neighbors.
So put your feet on the ground, read, investigate, stick to the facts, discuss and don’t be spooked by fear.
