TRAVERSE CITY – Nancy Maye (Secord) Petrosky, 82, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 12, with her family at her side.
Nancy was born June 9, 1942, in Detroit, MI to parents Lawrence and Maye (Hanson) Secord.
She was raised in a loving home in the Detroit area. Where her father was an engineer at General Motors and her mother a housemaker. She graduated from Immaculata High School in 1960. Continuing lifelong friendships with many of her classmates. As a young girl and throughout her lifetime she spent many summers in Grand Haven with her family enjoying the beaches of Lake Michigan.
On October 21, 1961, she married the love of her life Verne Petrosky. They shared a joyous marriage for almost 63 years. Together they raised 4 boys Tim, Bill, Steve, and Jeff. She was a wonderful homemaker and cook, with many of her recipes being prized. Dinner was served at the dining table, and all were expected to be there.
She joyfully joined the large Petrosky clan, and became instantly close to her sister in laws, and formed many close bonds to nieces and nephews.
In 1974, the family moved to Traverse City and opened the first Comfort Center furniture store.
Nancy fell in love with Northern Michigan and soon became active in all that it had to offer. Including summers at the beach, and winters on the slopes. Now shared most times with her new best friend Sue, a deeply close friendship that remained the rest of her life.
She was a lover of animals and adored her many dogs and cats throughout her lifetime.
She was also an avid reader, prized her book collection, and enjoyed historical novels.
She really loved to travel, and with her husband traveled extensively to countless places and countries. Including Australia, Alaska, and most of Europe. Later they would spend 27 winters in Bonita Springs Florida.
She immensely loved being a grandmother, and soon adopted the name of Nana. She doted on each of her grandchildren lovingly and with no exceptions.
Nancy was full of life and loved her life and all who shared it with her.
She leaves behind her husband Verne, sons Bill and wife Mary Kaye, Steve, Jeff and wife Laura. Her beloved grandchildren Brittany and son Noah, Keith, Brent, Stephanie, Sam, Spencer, Jake, and Ryan. Her brother Larry, Sister Peggy, sisters-inlaw Carol, Jan, Marie, Pauline, and Judy.
She was preceded in death by her oldest son Tim, brother Jim, brother in laws Ken, Gene, Fred, Luke, Don, and Ken. Sisterin- laws Molly and Pat.
The family invites all to celebrate Nancy’s life from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, October 21 at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.
