Soaking in the last of the colors

Fall is ever fleeting and so is the color. Nothing is better than taking a drive on the Leelanau Peninsula during prime fall color.

Fall is ever fleeting and so is the color. Nothing is better than taking a drive on the Leelanau Peninsula during prime fall color.

My favorite type of day is taking a trip from the top of the peninsula in Northport all the way down M-22 heading towards the Empire. This route is marked with breathtaking views from the Grand Traverse Lighthouse through curvy roadway to Leland, down Good Harbor Bay into beautiful Port Oneida; through Glen Arbor; up the dunes Glen Haven, then finish it off with a hike in Empire. Mix in some treats and several more photos, making it a time to remember when the weather turns gray and cold.

Although peak may have passed, there is still plenty of color to be soaked up for the last week of October.

This is much needed relaxation before this important election.

With the election approaching, nothing is more important than voting. And still Tuesday, Nov. 5 isn’t a national holiday. I digress, but no matter the method, vote with pride.

I’ve been lucky enough to study various cultures and travel across the world to many places. No matter how you chop it up, America is the luckiest place in the world to be, even during an election year in a battleground state.

Lord spare me from the obnoxious ads I see every other minute..

We should be thankful to still be living in a democracy. You never know what tomorrow brings.

No matter who you are voting for, it is your right to do so. Imagine living in China, Venezuela, and the other numerous current and former communist countries where billions of people don’t have a voice. No matter what we fight about today, it isn’t worth giving up our freedoms forever.

These local elections are important where your voice is amplified to issues that actually can reach out and touch you.

May the best ideas win. Best of luck to all the candidates.

Congratulations to the Glen Lake tennis team as they finished second overall at the MHSAA Div. 4 State Championship in Midland Monday and Tuesday.

Four years ago, Glen Lake didn’t have tennis courts, so to see the improvement first hand is an honor. Those young men and women on that tennis team will always be remembered as the best tennis team to come through Glen Lake. That’s something to be proud of and carry with you more than you think later in life.
