The Old Art Building in Leland will host a film screening of “North Country Opera: Recorded Live at the Ark,” as part of a six-stop tour throughout Michigan Sunday.

Original cast members will perform a song from the show, and there will be a brief Q&A in advance of the film screening. The 40th Anniversary Revival of North Country Opera toured Michigan in October of 2022. A recording of the final performance was screened for the first time at the historic Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor, in front of hundreds of plaidclad audience members.

“North Country Opera” is the beloved musical play by renowned Michigan playwright and songwriter and former Ludington resident Jay Stielstra. Set in the Buckhorn Bar in northern Michigan, it is the north country’s own version of a timeless love story: a young man falls in love with the beauty of the northern woods and rivers — and the woman he meets there. After leaving for the big city to pursue bigger and better things, he realizes how much he misses the two loves he left behind.

The play is a loving tribute to the people and culture of northern Michigan: fishing for trout in the cold rivers, hunting for birds in the autumn woods, snowmobiling in the winter. And of course, the camaraderie and wit of local characters found in a favorite tavern.

Doors open at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, and the film screening begins at 4 p.m.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased through the Old Art Building website: https:// www. oldartbuilding. com/product/film-screeningnorth- country-opera/.
