The Leelanau Conservation District will be celebrating its 80th year of service to the community during its Annual Meeting on Friday, November 22.
The event will be held at the Leland Lodge, 565 Pearl St. in Leland, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The evening’s festivities will include door prizes, silent auction, and more along with appetizers and dinner buffet. A presentation by Doug Burke, Mammoth Distilling, will highlight an on-going project to revive Rosen Rye and will include their efforts to raise an annual crop of grain on South Manitou Island.
The Leelanau Conservation District was established in 1943 to assist farmers with strategies to prevent soil erosion and to also promote land-use stewardship. Today, these founding principles remain while the role of the conservation district has evolved to address the environmental concerns of all community members and the shared commitment to preserve the natural resources of Leelanau County.
