Glen Lake football will host a playoff game for the first time since 2019 with a 35-0 win over Mancelona on Friday. The Lakers will host Mancelona again in the first round of the Div. 8 football state playoffs.

“It’s something we don’t have control of. We just want to ensure we can get a home game and do that. It’s already hard to beat a team once they get turned around, beat them, and try to beat them again later. So you gotta go to work and start with film today and look at what we did well and what we can improve because, you know, they’re going to come back and throw everything they got at you,” Glen Lake coach Jesse Smith said.

Sean Vilter’s parents hosted the team for a selection party on Sunday, during which the team got together to hang out and watch.

Glen Lake Senior Fletcher Middleton dominated the game with 219 rushing yards against Mancelona.

The Lakers started the scoring with a five-yard touchdown run from Sam Dykstra, followed by another touchdown from 35 yards out. Middleton got on the board in the second quarter with a 62-yard run to go up 21-0. Dykstra dominated with two touchdowns for 112 yards.

Isaac Hlavka had an 11-yard run, and Middleton had a 26-yard run to go up 35-0 in the third quarter.

No scoring happened in the third quarter of the quick football game.

Glen Lake had 426 yards compared to 149 yards from Mancelona. The Lakers had 409 rushing yards. The Lakers must clean up the penalties, as Glen Lake committed 10.

Dominic Stein led the team with five tackles, followed by Middleton, Allen, and Peplinski, each with three tackles.

“I told the guys after Friday that the main mission now is to get our seniors as many more games as possible,” Smith said.
