Got the soccer itch?
Look no further than indoor soccer at Northport Public School every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. throughout winter This indoor soccer session is free and open to kids of all ages, levels, and abilities from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. before competitive drop-in begins for adults, and middle and high school from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
The last drop-in of the calendar year will be Thursday, December 21. Following a twoweek holiday break, drop-ins will resume on Tuesday, January 8.
Hans Pohai Müller and Neil Wetherbee coordinate the dropin. Muller is a Northport graduate of 2010.
Indoor soccer has grown since it was hosted at Suttons Bay last winter. Northport has allowed for the indoor league to continue.
“I wanted to make it kid friendly, and then get a more competitive drop in going, later in the session,” Muller said.
The indoor league will last through March.
“We had quite a few kids but fewer adults last week. We ended up bringing them back into play and it helped bring that level of competition down from high octane intense, you know, varsity guys going headto- head against the adults and it was just really fun having the adults and kids on the same, court.
Müeller said, “the general idea is to have kids of all ages ... get them out there for the an hour then we change gears and have a more competitive drop in ... (soccer) is a big passion and I saw that there was an opportunity to carry the torch and at some point I’ll hand it off to somebody. I’m just really thankful for the (Northport Public School).”
