NORTHPORT- Janice Faith Morton, 88, of Northport passed away on November 7, 2024, at MediLodge of Leelanau. Janice was born on June 29, 1936, the daughter of Walter and Alice (Pangborn) Fowler. On January 15, 1955, she married Edward J. Morton, who preceded her in death in 2000. In 2012, she married Richard J. Podleski, who survives.

Jan was a long-time receptionist at the Leelanau Clinic in Northport and served on the Leelanau Township Planning Commission for many years. She loved cooking, and especially baking; her cinnamon rolls and fruit pies became legendary among her family and friends. She very much loved her home on Grand Traverse Bay north of Northport. It is where she and Ed raised their family, entertained their many friends, and where she watched the sunrise and enjoyed the beautiful views and varied wildlife for many, many years. When they were both in their mid 70s, she married Richard “Pod,” and they spent their later years together, helping each other.

Jan is also survived by her children Bernard “Bernie” (Bobbi) Morton, Alice (Doug) Johnson, Walter “Wally” (Gale) Morton, Mark Morton, and Christine Wilds; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Edward J. Morton, a daughter in infancy Barbara Morton, nine sisters, and three brothers (two in infancy).

Cremation has taken place and private family services have been held.
