Erosion which has eaten away the shoreline at Christmas Cove Park may soon be addressed.

The Leelanau Township Board Tuesday night unanimously approved hiring Machin Engineering in Traverse City to conduct preliminary engineering design work up to $20,000 at the park. The motion was made by township Treasurer Denise Dunn and seconded by Trustee Gary Fredrickson. *** A Special Assessment District (SAD) consisting of all Lake Leelanau waterfront property owners will be reactivated to pay for repairs and ongoing maintenance of the countyowned Leland Dam which controls water levels in the inland lake. The Leelanau County Board of Commissioners voted 6-1 Tuesday night to begin the process of reactivating the SAD by authorizing the county Equalization Department to review records and create an updated list of “tax parcels” to be included in the district.
