The Leland girls basketball is poised to be a disrupter during the 2024-25 season.
The veteran Comets will have eight returners from last year’s team that saw action. Five of those eight are seniors.
”There’s a lot of varsity experience coming back. We’re hitting the ground running. We’re starting out this first week and we’re looking forward to working hard and having a great season in front of us,” Leland coach Ryan Knudsen said. “I’ve been coaching a lot of these kids since they were in elementary school, all the way through middle school and high school. It’s exciting to see them continue to develop as basketball players throughout the years. It’s exciting to see this senior class and what they’re able to do this season.”
Leland will be led by seniors Ella Knudsen, Elli Miller, Elyse Atha, Kally Sluiter and Alyssa Korson. Hadley Bison, Addi Waskiewicz, Lillian Connor, Ariah Amin, Ingrid Paciorka, Janell Roman, and Lorna Wiesen round out the roster.
The biggest hope for the Comets is hoping to hit the ground running both offensively and defensively.
”They’re already familiar with a lot of the concepts that we’ve implemented last year and I’m really excited to see what they’re able to do this season,” Knudsen said.
Knudsen admits the Comets will be challenged in one of the most competitive basketball conferences around.
The Comets will be led by seniors Eli Miller and Ella Knudsen who have played on varsity all four years.
”I’m really looking forward to the team. We’ve been together for a long time now It’s one of those things where it’s our senior year and we all know how to play together, ” Miller said.
Leland defeated Suttons Bay before ending its season in the district semifinals last year to Glen Lake.
The Comets will be working on conditioning and cleaning up the plays during the first few games of the 2024-25 season.
”We have to go out and play every game, how we’re capable of playing, and knowing that when we step off the court, we gave it our best,” Ella Knudsen said.
