Suttons Bay Public School celebrated Native American Heritage Month with a special spirit week held from Nov. 18 to Nov. 22. Throughout the week, school staff and students participated in themed dress-up days and activities aimed at fostering pride, awareness, and unity. Students embraced their creativity and cultural appreciation by participating in themed days such as “Rock Your Mocs or Crocs” and “Rock Your Ribbon Skirt or Shirt.” The week also provided an opportunity to spotlight and honor the diverse Native American traditions represented within the district’s student body.
“Native American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the cultural richness and history of our students and their families,” said Suttons Bay Indigenous Education Director Samantha TwoCrow in a press release. “Spirit Week allows us to engage students in a fun, meaningful way while encouraging them to learn more about and respect Native American heritage.”
By incorporating these events, the district said it hopes to “inspire students to explore the enduring influence of Native American cultures on our shared history and future.” The celebrations are part of the school’s ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment that honors the diversity of its students.
