Five generations of Jillsons have slept to the rhythm of Lake Michigan waves heard from their vacation home in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. In recent months those waves have come crashing ashore, eroding their front yard bluff and forcing the family to take action before their 2,700 square-foot home falls into the big lake. *** If you don’t have a job, you’re not looking very hard. Two government agencies — one federal and the other local — are struggling to fill positions. And a local sub shop has closed due to a dearth of reliable manpower. The U.S. Census Bureau is searching for 160 people to assist in the 2020 Census. But there wasn’t much interest at the advertised hourly rate of $14.50. Earlier this week, the agency sweetened the pot.
