Glen Lake football coach Jesse Smith was named Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Region Coach of the Year last week for his efforts coaching the Lakers in his second season at the helm. The Lakers finished 9-3 overall and won the Northwest Conference title while diving deep into the playoffs.
“I feel very blessed to get the honor. I can’t take credit for it all. I’m nothing without my assistant coaches and the players in our program and I think it shines a light on what we’re doing at Glen Lake. I’m just honored to get that nomination, but more or less I want to give the credit to the rest of my coaches and the players,” Smith said.
Glen Lake ended the season in a district final, falling to eventual state champion Beal City 21-14.
This is the second year the Lakers have made the playoffs under Smith.
Eight Glen Lake players were named to the All-Region team including Laker sophomore Dominic Stein, Braden Roush, Sully Seymour, Fletcher Middleton, Benji Allen, Sam Dykstra, Wade Daniels and Boden Fisher.
