Under intense scrutiny from would-be neighbors and the Elmwood Township Planning Commission, developers of an apartment complex that could bring more than 600 “workforce housing” rental units to Leelanau County, have withdrawn an application for their project. Elmwood Township zoning administrator Sara Kopriva received a letter Monday from Jon Laureto of REI Construction Consultants indicating that his company is no longer seeking a site plan review for the Brewery Creek Apartments project it brought to the Planning Commission in October. *** Doors are open at West Side Community Church to members grieving the death of former pastor John Clark. Clark was found dead Monday in the woods near his Benzie County home, a single gunshot in his head. Benzie Sheriff Ted Schendel said his department was dispatched mid-morning to a possible suicide. Clark, former lead pastor at West Side Community Church in Solon Township, was found with a gunshot wound to the head, Schendel said.
