Tennis All State awards were recently given out by the Michigan High School Athletic Association.
Three Glen Lake Laker tennis players were honored.
For the third year in a row, senior Colebrook Sutherland, Glen Lake’s number one singles player was awarded first team All-State. Colebrook has played number one singles for every match since he was a freshman. His record for his high school career was 71-28. Colebrook was also given the rare distinction of being All-State in two sports in one season as he earned the recognition in cross country Colebrook’s younger brother, and Glen Lake’s number two single player, sophomore Hawthorn Sutherland was also awarded All-State for the first time. Hawthorn finished as runner up at the state finals tournament in Midland. Hawthorn amassed a 25-9 record this season.
Glen Lake senior Michael Houtteman was awarded All State at No. 3 singles. He was crowned state champion at that flight as well. Houtteman had a 26-4 record over the course of the year. Michael was also All-State his sophomore year when he played second singles.
The number two doubles team of senior Andrew Schopieray and sophomore Bryce Cundiff were awarded honorable mention All-State for their semifinal finish at the state finals and their record of 17-6 over the fall season.
Senior Kira Lamb, who played No. 4 doubles for Glen Lake was awarded Academic All-State by the MHSAA. Lamb has a 3.88 grade point average with a 19-13 record while playing all four years at Glen Lake.
Overall, the state runner-up Glen Lake boys tennis team made academic all-state. The players have a GPA overall average of 3.6.
