Finn and Ruby Hogan have been shining at their respective collegiate schools as both Glen Lake graduates find their way at the next level.

Kalamazoo College sophomore Ruby Hogan recently finished her second soccer season and is now in the early stages of basketball season, playing for the Hornets.

Ruby was named women’s basketball MIAA Player of the Week for the week of November 25.

“It’s always a slow start coming into the season because basketball starts right after soccer, so flipping the switch into a different sport is always hard, but the first games I had to get back into it. I had two really good games back-to-back,” Ruby said.

Hogan notched a double-double with 23 points and nearly achieved a triple-double in November.

Last year, Hogan led the team in points, field goals made, free throws made, 3-point percentage, free throw percentage, assists, and steals.

The Hornets are off to a 3-5 start which is an improvement from last year at this time.

During the 2023 fall soccer season, Hogan tied for the team lead in goals (5) and points (12), while leading the team in shots (43) and shots on goal (24). Hogan was also tied for second on the team in assists with two and was named All-MIAA Second Team. Hogan had multiple games with three points against opponents.

The Hornets were adjusting to a new soccer coach this season and a new team dynamic.

“Our record wasn’t very great, but personally I feel like I had a good year and grew as a player and performed well,” Ruby said.

“It’s definitely a better start for our basketball season than we had last year ... We have a very dynamic team this year. A lot of good additions to the team and good returners. It’s still early in the season and each game we’re making improvements and personally I’m making improvements. I’m excited for the rest of the games to come and for more league games to start as well,” Ruby said.

Ruby says school is going well at the rigorous private school. She is currently on campus for a couple more games before heading north for the holidays.

Finn Hogan is a junior on the football team at Bowling Green State University.

The Falcons (7-5) are currently preparing to battle Arkansas State University (7-6) in the Lending Tree Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, Thursday, Dec. 26 at 9 p.m.

“Arkansas State is a good team, similar situation to us ... We’ll fly down there Sunday and do all of the bowl event activities, which is always a fun, good time. It’s a little celebration of the year we had,” Finn said.

Finn is in his second year at BGSU after transferring from Central Michigan at the end of his freshman season.

“I was just saying the other day, it couldn’t have worked out better for myself for school and football, all of that. It’s been an amazing experience so far. We've got one more year left and it should be a big one, which is exciting,” he said.

Finn, a Glen Lake graduate of 2021, appeared in 11 games with six starts this season.

His best game of the season came in a victory at Akron University where the junior had six catches for 67 yards, including a 33-yard reception against the Zips.

Finn had two receptions for 18 yards in a win against his former team Central Michigan.

“It was just cool, everybody’s talking trash, chirping at each other, so it was fun. Seeing all those guys on the field again, it’s weird for sure, but I love those guys. I still have a great relationship with them, so it was just super cool being back on the field with everybody and getting to hang out with them a little,” Finn said.

In year two at BGSU, Finn has developed into a hybrid tight end and receiver that has given him a larger role for the Falcons. Hogan plays alongside junior Harold Fannin Jr., who was named MAC offensive player of the year and BGSU’s first-ever consensus All-American.

Finn will be looking to produce even more during his senior year in 2025.

In 2023, he appeared in 10 games with two starts.
